Academic staf at TU Darmstadt have the opportunity to further develop their teaching skills within a structured training programme in higher education while working. This opportunity is offered in various formats such as workshops, peer group consultations, teaching observations and of course sharing your experiences with peers.

The training programme is accredited by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hochschuldidaktik (www.dghd.de – German Association for Educational and Academic Staff Development in Higher Education) and consequently recognised both nationally and internationally.

This training includes three modules and usually takes one to three years on average to complete.

For each module, a module certificate is issued. When all modules have been completed successfully, the HDA issues and awards the Higher Education Teaching Certificate. We certify demonstrated achievements within a certification process that follows the Copenhagen guide lines of 18 ECVET points in total.

Already completed courses in higher education can be recognised by HDA based on submitted participation certificates and their verification.

Why should you learn how to teach?

  • Be more confident when teaching.
  • Expand your range of teaching methods.
  • Shape the general conditions you need to effectively activate and motivate your students and, consequently, their learning success.
  • Have fun teaching.

In addition, this certificate documents your professional teaching skills. With regard to professorial appointments and habilitation (doctorate/post-doctorate) processes, this documentation becomes increasingly important.

Notes regarding registration and process

You enter the Higher Education Teaching Certificate programme by registering online for the workshop “Effective Teaching – Fundamentals” in Module 1. You will receive more information about Module 1 during the workshop.

You can enrol in workshops of Module 2 following or parallel to Module 1. Once you have completed Module 1, you can start with Module 3.
