Observe yourself with empathy

Learn to look at yourself with more compassion and understanding to promote inner strength and calm.

The concept of self-empathy originally comes from Buddhism and Eastern philosophy. Positive psychology has taken up the concept again and psychologist Kerstin Neff in particular has studied the topic of self-compassion on a scientific basis.

What is self-compassion?

Many people treat themselves with less compassion and kindness in difficult moments than they would others. However, the conscious use of self-compassion can be an extremely valuable resource, especially in such moments. Treating yourself like a supportive friend embodies the essence of self-compassion. It is important to emphasise that self-compassion does not mean self-pity or passive acceptance of everything. Rather, it is about recognising the present moment in its entirety, including all the emotions that arise.

What can I achieve through meditation?

Through the meditation ‘observing yourself compassionately’, you can practise a more grateful and compassionate approach to yourself. The more regularly you practise, the greater the positive effect.

This exercise takes ~ 5 minutes.
