The TU Darmstadt Graduate Survey – Facts and background
Since 2008, the Center for Educational Development and Technology (Hochschuldidaktische Arbeitsstelle – HDA) has been carrying out an annual graduate survey. The experiences and assessments of the former students are an important component for the quality assurance and development of study and teaching.
The graduates are asked to reflect and evaluate their studies from their current perspective. They provide information on their overall assessment of their course of study, their transition to further studies or to working life, and on their current (work) situation.
The TU Darmstadt Graduate Survey is part of the nationwide Graduate Survey Cooperation Project (Kooperationsprojekt Absolventenstudien – KOAB), which is coordinated by the Institute of Applied Statistics (Institut für angewandte Statistik – ISTAT).
The survey of the graduates with a Master degree, a teaching degree or a PhD is carried out in collaboration with ISTAT. Since 2018, the survey of the Bachelor graduates has been conducted by the HDA with a shortened version of the KOAB questionnaire, which is tailored for this target group.
All graduates of a graduation year are invited to take part in the survey one to two years after obtaining their degrees. Invitations are sent out via mail and/or email. The field phase takes place every winter semester from October to February.

Usage and publication of the survey data
The collected data serves the purpose of quality assurance and development of study and teaching at the TU Darmstadt. It can also be used for strategic decisions. Additionally, the results offer orientation for prospective and current students regarding the transition to further studies as well as regarding potential employment prospects.
The data is analysed and transmitted to the departments, fields of study, directorates, central services, students of the TU Darmstadt and the interested public.

Project 'Utilisation potential of the data collected in the Graduate Survey'
As part of the TU Darmstadt Graduate Survey, the HDA is currently undertaking a project entitled 'Utilisation potential of the data collected in the Graduate Survey'. The objective of this project is to increase the data usage and to access new user groups at TU Darmstadt. This is being achieved by including specific topics in the questionnaire, presenting the findings tailored to the specific target groups and by developing outreach materials. The project is financed by the QSL fund ('QSL-Mittel').
